BookDoc and WeDoctor are collaborating for competitive advantage over global medical tourism.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 — Local health platform BookDoc and Chinese firm WeDoctor today announced a collaboration in delivering 24/7 online medical services amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Both the Malaysian and Chinese health technology companies are looking to explore partnerships in medical tourism, in addition to joint efforts in battling the coronavirus pandemic.

“BookDoc and WeDoctor will explore partnerships in medical tourism and devise strategies to gain competitive advantage to reach out to medical tourists around the globe.

“The two companies will also leverage on their technology, know-how and local knowledge to expand borderless healthcare,” the companies said in a joint statement, as cited by The Edge Markets.

Founder and CEO of BookDoc, Chevy Beh, believes that the growth prospects for medical tourism over the long term are positive, with demographics shifting towards an increasingly globalised, ageing population, rising affluence, increasing life expectancy, and a growing upper-middle income population.

“Southeast Asia’s medical tourism industry will continue to experience rampant growth, post Covid-19 recovery, driven by quality health care delivery services, competitive rates, and reputable medical expertise,” said Beh in the same statement.

BookDoc is an online health technology platform company present in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Thailand that connects patients to health care professionals by allowing the former to search and book medical appointments.

WeDoctor is a Chinese technology-enabled health care solutions platform that provides online and offline health care services in collaboration with general practitioners and specialist doctors.
