财政部副部长拿督阿米鲁丁韩查披露，我国医疗旅游业在2015至2018年的复合年均增长率高达17%，2018年该行业就吸引了120万名医疗旅游客，总收入高达15亿令吉，并为为国内生产总值贡献64亿令吉。
他说，配合2020年大马旅游年（VM2020），政府将同时推出2020年马来西亚医疗保健旅游年（MyHT2020）。
“因此，政府放眼明年可吸引到的医疗旅游客可提升至200万人，带来20亿令吉的收入，为国内生产总值贡献80亿令吉。”
他是在2020年马来西亚医疗保健旅游年推介礼上致词时，如是披露。
阿米鲁丁韩查指出，每当谈及经济效益，也等同谈论对其他行业所产生的积极影响，如在促进大马医疗旅游业时，对其他行业带来的效益，包括交通、住宿和旅游活动如购物等，这都可以使有关领域和一些中小型企业受益。
他说，该行业作为一个利益领域，旅游总收入中，医疗旅游就占了7.6%，预计未来还会持续增长。
他也希望2020年马来西亚医疗保健旅游年可以作为大马迈向高收入过的催化剂。
他指出，医疗旅游业也创造就业机会，而财政部也会努力确保该行业可以蓬勃发展，如通过诸如投资税务奖励，医疗旅游业已经造就超过100亿令吉的投资额和创造1万5000个就业机会。”
“不仅如此，医疗旅游业还在减少我国的人才流失问题上做出了贡献，保留高技能的医疗专业人员，继续留在大马私人医疗机构服务。”
他相信在2015年至2018年之间，通过与大马人才机构的合作，已经有200多名海外医疗专业人员返回家园，在医疗保健领域任职。
另外，他披露，继财政部长林冠英宣布9家医院被圈定为旅游旗舰医院后，将有多4家医院成为旅游旗舰医院，分别是吉隆坡鹰阁医院、吉隆坡班台医院、槟城港安医院和卢源来专科医院。
出席者包括大马医疗旅游理事会首席执行员莎丽雅兹丽、马航首席执行员依兹汉以及卫生部秘书长拿督斯里陈超明。与此同时，大马医疗旅游理事会和马航也在推介礼上签署谅解备忘录，以共同加强大马医疗旅游业服务。
