KUALA LUMPUR: Institut Jantung Negara Holdings (IJN) intends to spearhead a new and the first cardiac centre hospital outside the capital city and in the southern region, in partnership with Permodalan Nasional Bhd.The hospital, which will enable IJN Holdings to tap larger customer base in the region, will be developed on a land currently owned by Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) in Taman Perling, Johor. The move will then allow PNB to turn Taman Perling into mixed-use development, comprising a retail mall, a four-star hotel and a convention centre.IJN Holdings signed a memorandum of understanding with PNB today to collaborate on the establishment of the hospital. Its group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Mohd Azhari Yakub said the new centre will help patients who live beyond the confines of Kuala Lumpur."This will help minimise the travel costs and time patients have to undertake if they need to come all the way to the city from other states especially those in the southern region."Today's ceremony will foster another initiative that will benefit our patients and the country at large," he said at the signing ceremony of the emorandum of understanding (MOU) here.Other than cardiology and heart related treatments, the new hospital will also cater to other specialisations such as diabetic management and renal care to meet the community's needs.PNB president and group chief executive Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad said with IJN Holdings' strong reputation, the new hospital will serve as a catalyst for Taman Perling's integrated development and a boost to the overall growth of medical tourism in Johor.Source: New Straits Times
