KUALA LUMPUR: KPJ Healthcare Bhd (KPJ) will be spending RM200 million for the expansion of KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital (KPJ TSH) to build a new hospital tower and for the recruitment of medical consultants.

KPJ TSH chief executive officer Muhammad Badri Hussin said the hospital is eyeing a 10 per cent revenue increase this year and a return of investment from the new tower within 4 years.

"We aim to increase our revenue with the higher number of capacity from this new tower and aim to become the biggest hospital under the KPJ chain of hospitals.

"With the new capacity, we will be able to take in 320 patients at one time and attended by our medical consultants, officers as well as wellness doctors.

"We also aim to increase the number of local and international patients in offering our medical services

and leverage on our medical tourism initiatives as part of our expansion plans,” he told the media in a briefing session today.

The 17-storey tower will begin construction by end of this year and is expected to house an additional 120 hospital beds with increased number of services as the current facility is already more than 70 per cent capacity.

KPJ TSH’s patients come from insurance policy owners, which stand at 50 per cent, cash paying patients at 23per cent, corporate patients and medical tourism which stands at 20 per cent and 7 per cent respectively.

The hospital treats about 177,000 patients every year majoring in 165 orthopedic cases per month.

On medical tourism, Badri said the hospital plan to increase the number of international patients to 15 per cent from the current 7 per cent through its medical tourism initiatives and service offerings.

"We see a high number of patients especially from Indonesia, Somalia and East African countries, Bangladesh and Yemen which we plan to leverage on.

"We have also provided our medical services to more than 72,000 international patients between 2013 and 2018 from 132 countries within the six years.

Badri said in providing healthcare services to its patients, KPJ TSH aims to to be different, ensuring patients have a good experience when they come to KPJ TSH to be treated.

Badri said for 2019, the hospital eyes a revenue target of RM220 million.
