Back in 31 October, 2019, Malaysia Year of Healthcare Travel 2020, or MyHT2020, was launched in tandem with the country’s tourism campaign — Visit Malaysia 2020 (VM2020). MyHT2020 celebrates the importance of physical and mental well-being by inviting everyone to seek health and wellness treatments, whilst enjoying Malaysia’s tourism attractions.
Within a short period of time, Malaysia is already being regarded as a ‘Healthcare Marvel’ by being a successful world-class healthcare travel destination, with acknowledgement from fellow industry peers and experts across the globe. The country has been internationally recognised as the “Best Country in the World for Healthcare” from 2015 to 2019 by US-based International Living, and “Destination of the Year” for healthcare travel by UK-based International Medical Travel Journal from 2015 to 2017 based on these criteria: quality, accessibility and affordability.
Sherene Azli, CEO of Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), on this achievement said, “We want to extend an invitation to all healthcare travellers to come enjoy a seamless end-to-end healthcare journey experience which both of quality and affordable during MyHT2020. We have seen a growing trend of Malaysia’s popularity as a choice destination for healthcare, and I believe this is largely due to the trust placed in us by healthcare travellers.”
Malaysia’s reputation as a healthcare travel destination is built on its possession of all the right ingredients — world-class quality healthcare, that is easily accessible and competitively affordable, delivered in a warm, hospitable and friendly environment. The country’s strong reputation as a healthcare destination has attracted over 1.2 million healthcare travellers in 2018 alone, and is still serving an increasing inflow of healthcare travellers.
