PETALING JAYA: The medical tourism industry is expected to continue growing, with a projected annual revenue of RM2bil in 2025.
Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council chief executive officer Mohd Daud Mohd Arif said the medical tourism industry in 2019 raked in RM1.7bil in hospital receipts alone, and with the spillover effects into other industries, contributed an estimated RM7bil to the economy.
“These include air travel, accommodation, food and beverage, leisure activities and more,” he told The Star.
Mohd Daud said Malaysia is committed to providing quality and affordable healthcare to international patients within a safe and trusted destination.
“We are currently on course for continuous and sustainable industry growth ... over the next four to five years, guided by the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Industry Blueprint 2021-2025.
“The overall aspiration is to provide the best healthcare travel experience by 2025,” he added.
Mohd Daud said Malaysia seeks to redefine patient experience through a unified and collaborative approach to digitalisation that will allow healthcare providers to improve service delivery.
