Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council is to receive government support of RM 25 million (US$6m) for 2020, as announced in the recent Budget 2020 (Belanjawan 2020). It will support promotion of Malaysia Year of Healthcare Travel 2020 (MyHT2020), and strengthen Malaysia’s position as preferred destination for health tourism in the Asean for oncology, cardiology and fertility treatment.
Commenting on the news, Sherene Azli, CEO of MHTC says:
“We believe that this continued faith in the healthcare travel industry will further propel Malaysia’s profile in the international landscape as a leading global destination for healthcare. Our success to date has been cemented by the dedication of our stakeholders, namely, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Ministry of Economic Affairs, Malaysia’s leading private healthcare providers, government agencies and numerous industry players across the value chain. This support will go a long way in bringing Malaysia Healthcare to new heights while making significant positive economic impact to the nation – especially since we will be hosting Malaysia Year of Healthcare Travel 2020 (MyHT2020)"
The Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah has also recently said that the MyHT2020 campaign, run in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign, is aiming to attract 2 million medical travellers to Malaysia next year, bringing in revenue receipts of RM2 billion.
