Wearing a face mask in public places will be mandatory beginning 1 August
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob broke the news during the COVID-19 national security press conference today, 23 July.
He announced that the same rule will apply when taking public transport.
There has been a decline in public adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the government.
The recent increase in COVID-19 infections has also been worrying, the Senior Minister said.
"Social distancing and wearing of face masks in public transportation is not adhered to anymore, even in really crowded areas," Ismail Sabri said.
He added that the public will be allowed to wear homemade face masks, as long as they follow specifications by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
